February see's E-day, a national event on energy saving which High Peak
Borough Council along with the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre are
encouraging people to take part in.
Similar to the Earth Hour
(http://aemblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/earth-hour.html
) which I flagged up earlier this year that take place in March, the event
aims to encourage you to take small steps to save energy by turning off
household items, which do not need to be on, and to leave these items off
for as long as possible.
The E-day event will be launched by a launch event taking place on Wednesday
at St Paul's Cathedral in London, which will include a candle-lit vigil for
the planet, a pedal-powered cinema and other activities.
To take part in E-day all you need to do is from 6.00pm on Wednesday to 6pm
on Thursday is leave off household electrical items, which do not need to be
on. These items might include lights in rooms that are not being used,
televisions left on standby, mobile phone chargers left plugged in and
unused printers and computer equipment.
The total effect of the various people across the country taking part on
E-day will be updated on the E-Day website, www.e-day.org.uk through the
day, and if you wanted more tips and advice on ways to save energy in your
home, you can contact the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on 0800 512 012 or
drop in to see the team at the Centre, which is located next to the Town
Hall in Buxton.
