The week ahead (5th to 11th December)

This coming week will most likely be subject to the weather - if the expectations of snow cone to pass.

Monday sees some catch up meetings in Buxton followed by a look round the CESP works with HPCH board.

Tuesday is looking at the QEII fields initiative, followed by Corporate Select which is looking at Glossop Halls and a confidential report on the transactional review.

Wednesday has elements of Tuesday but with a different audience.

Thursday sees a trip to Matlock for a meeting on Community Safety with a meeting of audit and regulatory in the evening.

On paper it's a quiet end to the week, but it's still early yet, and with the way the weather reports are looking it could all be subject to change.

The week ahead (28th November to 3rd December)

This coming week start with a very early start to make the first train out of Glossop to travel to London for an event at the LGA around how the health service reforms will work in two tier areas like ours.

Tuesday has less miles in it and will see some meetings with community groups and how the council works with them, Wednesday was similar but will now see the pensions strike instead.

Thursday is further community group meetings in the morning followed (hopefully in my part) by a HPCH Gamesley Walkabout that is taking place, starting from the bus stop at the end of Eyam Lane at 2.00pm.

Lastly Friday sees amongst other things a meeting looking at what should be the local priorities for our local community safety partnership.

NaBloPoMo

Whilst possibly sounding like some sort of condition or something NaBloPoMo, or National Blog Posting Month to give it, its full title, is actually an initiative set up to encourage blog posting, originally running once a year in November, it now runs all year round, with the simple aim to take part been that you have to post every day for a month.

I think I may have tried this once before and failed miserably but it’s worth giving it another go.

To help or possible hinder, a theme is set for each month with this month’s been ‘BEST’ which give leave today for an easy first post, partly repeating one from yesterday but to wish everyone best wishes for the new year.

A new year which I hope will be a good one for everyone and one which will bring a number of changes and challenges no doubt, starting off at least locally in relation to the local Labour Party with the hunt for a new parliamentary candidate to take on the executive member for ‘nice things and getting in the paper’ at the Borough Council and retain the High Peak for Labour.

On a personal note I hope to end my quest for new employment with a new employer to replace the former one that cast those of us in the north aside in the summer.

On a blogging note there will be post’s forthcoming on the pre Christmas council meeting, issues around gritting of which I know there have been many (with a recent new facebook group flagging up some of them) and some good news on work from the police to help tackle some of the anti social behaviour issues that have been flagged up recently particularly around the shops.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to last weeks Corporate Select Committee, but the executive meeting that will consider the deliberation made including a recommendation from the controlling group’s members of the committee for the council tax rise to be only 2.5% instead of the recommended 3 %

As well as considering the council tax rate, the meeting will also consider fees and charges for various services which as flagged up previously are set to rise by huge amounts with the charge for bulky waste collections going from £10 to £16, and the cost for fridges from £10 to £21, something which I hope will be reconsidered giving the current financial circumstances.

The meeting will also consider reports on the Council’s Corporate Plan, performance and financial review, equality standards for local government, the regeneration strategy, the development plan core framework and the HPCH management agreement.

Tameside Hospital Meeting

Coming up ..

Although flagged up last week this coming Thursday (25th September) will see a meeting of the Audit and Regulatory Committee taking place at the council offices in Chinley.

In addition to the items flagged up previously there will now be an extra report looking at changing the polling station at Charlesworth for a potential parish election that may need to take place.

The reason for this outlined in the report is due to the normal polling station been the Charlesworth Primary School, which would have to close for the day to allow the election to take place.

To prevent this, an alterative site in St John’s Church is been suggested, with comments from the local ward councillor been reported to the meeting.
