that I don't usually serve on, but was attending on Wednesday due to the
report back from the Congestion Charge sub committee been under
consideration.
In the end I substituted for one of the other Labour members who was unable
to attend due to illness.
In general the recommendation from the Congestion Charge Sub were accepted,
and consideration will be given when one of the existing sub group run by
the regeneration select committee finish to form a transport sub committee.
Officers also updated on the proposal around finding one of the existing
transport partnerships as a body to co-ordinate / pick up concerns on all
transport issues across the High Peak, with the High Peak and Derbyshire
Dales Access Forum been seen as the most suitable body.
The meeting also had a report on assessing the impact of the economic
downturn which included within it details on the youth unemployment figures
across the High Peak, which included the concerning news that the Gamesley
Ward (also all of the Gamesley Estate) is the highest with an 18.3% youth
unemployment rate- almost 1 in 5 in the area. Some of the other areas with
high rates are Whitfield at 13.5, Barms (Buxton) at 11.7 and Padfield at
10.2%.
The report also detailed a number of schemes that the borough is working on
to tackle some of these problems, however in the case of some of the
proposals whilst they will have a wider benefit, I not completely convinced
that they will help to tackle some of the particular issues with
unemployment locally.
