primary purpose of which was around setting the council tax and budget for
the council for the following year.
After a slightly delayed start due to problems with the traffic lights in
Little Hayfield, which were apparently showing red at both ends for some
time.
The meeting also considered a number of other recommendations from the
executive including the council's corporate plan, the management agreement
for High Peak Community Housing and a motion from the liberal democrats on
recycling.
I wasn't able to support the council's corporate plan despite it containing
a number of measurers that I agree with due to not been able to support the
budget / financial strategy which essentially puts in place the funding to
do the things high lighted in the plan. I did however request for the
proposed unemployment task force that it looks in particular at tackling
youth unemployment, but that it also looks to expand upon the areas it is
intending to cover to include part of New Mills which has similar issues to
some of the existing area already high lighted as priority areas for the
taskforce (namely Gamesley, Fairfield, Whitfield and Buxton Central).
The budget / financial strategy was agreed by the council despite the
opposition of the Labour and Lib Dem groups on the council, whereas the
agreement to extend the management agreement for High Peak Community Housing
to manage the council's housing stock was agreed unanimously.
The motion from the Lib Dems on the Council was amended by the controlling
conservative group to take note of the action plan endorsed by the
environment select committee and thank staff for there efforts during the
recent bad weather. I however still supported the original motion which was
defeated as the original motion specifically mentioned ensuring there are
enough resources to run the service, something that the amended motion only
made reference to.
