Council House Rent Changes

Although at the full council meeting on Thursday the council approved that
council / High Peak Community Housing rents should rise by the government
guideline average of 5.7%, on Friday the Labour Housing Minister Margaret
Beckett advised that the average rent increase for local authority tenants
in 2009/10 will now be halved (or thereabouts) to around 3.1%.

The change to guideline rent increase should see the proposed increase for
rents across the High Peak drop, but by how much is still (from contacting
officers at the council and HPCH) under consideration as is when / if the
reduction will apply.

I hope that the Council / HPCH will take up this offer to reduce the impact
of this years rent increase and as soon as I know any further details I will
let you know.
