Congestion charge - High Peak's View

Following on from the recent public meeting with regards to the Greater
Manchester Congestion Charge, the sub group met last Thursday to agree its
recommendation to the Leader of the Council for the council's response to
the congestion charge.

After our deliberation's we recommended that the council should submit a
holding objection to the scheme based around the lack of guaranteed
alternatives for residents of the High Peak been included within the
proposals so far.

Our recommendation which was accepted and submitted as the council's
response on Friday also included a list of areas where we wanted to see a
definite committee to improvements before we would be able to suggest
supporting the scheme such as improvements to parking and facilities at
local train station, improvements to local rails services, support for the
Gamesley Station and improvements to bus services into the Greater
Manchester Area.

What happens next for the proposals is in the hands of local residents in
the Greater Manchester area who will have a vote in the referendum on the
proposals between the end of November and early December.
