Things to be aware of - National allotment week

This week sees a range of events been run by the National Allotments Gardens
Trust under the theme of national allotment week.

The events which aim to promote and raise awareness and availability of
allotments both locally and nationally hope to show both the public and
local authorities the strength of support and interest in 'allotment culture
'.

Locally some of the issue's over lack of allotment space with Glossopdale
was raised by fellow High Peak Borough Councillor Graham Oakley, and with
the Borough's own figures showing a big waiting list of 85 people for the 7
plots owned by the council within Glossop is the time right to push for
further sites to be provided by the council ?

Some of the issues around allotments and providing additional open space
will be contained within the forthcoming 'Open Space Strategy' which once
developed and published next year will guide the management and development
of open space including allotments during the next 5 to 10 years.
