Upgrade for Glossop Fire Station

Chapel Lane Fun Day Fire Safety

Regular readers will remember that I advised during last year about a consultation that the Derbyshire Fire Authority were doing on the development plan for the fire service within Derbyshire.

One of the options included within the consultation was a proposal to look at reducing the number of fire engines at one of the fire stations in Derby, and by doing so upgrade 3 other fire station's within Derbyshire from day time staffing to 24 hour staffing, with one of those station being the Glossop Fire Station.

Well following a meeting of the fire authority last week, the fire authority has agreed a proposal to reduce the number of engines from two to one at Derby's Ascot Drive Station and by doing so upgrade the staffing at Swadlincote, Matlock and Glossop from day time to 24 hours.

Unsurprisingly the Derby based Derby Evening Telegraph and campaigners in Derby are critical of the decision, commenting that the consultation has ignored there views, however there is little mention of the views of the public in Swadlincote, Matlock and Glossop who will now have an increased service through this change, which from the event I attended last year was a well supported proposal (at least in Glossop anyway !).
