Labour Party Meeting

Not far to go for this months Labour Party meeting which took place on Gamesley in the Gamesley Sport and Community Centre.

We had a packed agenda which included discussion around prescription charges, royal mail and the current situation in Gaza, along with the usual items and regular reports.

The discussion on prescription charges stemmed from a recent campaign started by the socialist health association a campaign group that the constitution affiliates to, which was in response to a department of health consultation around prescription charges for long term illnesses.

The campaign is for prescription charges to be dropped for the remaining small percentage of the population that still have to pay them, because with 8 out of 10 medications been prescribed for pensioners or children, as well as nursing mothers and people on certain benefits or with certain long term medical conditions there are very few people left that still pay, and after discussing the issue we agreed to support the campaign and respond as such to the consultation.

On the issues of the Royal Mail, we discussed a motion around the concerns following the Hooper review which again there was support from all members present to approve.
