Coming up - Development Control Committee

Next Monday evening (19th January) sees a meeting of the council's
development control committee.

Amongst the items for consideration are two items of local interest, one
relates to extending the opening hours of the clinic based on the shops at
Winster Mews for when the dental service starts for which so far has raised
no objections and to be honest I don't expect there will be any objections.

On the otherhand, the other proposals from Lidl for a new store in the
former Wild and Hallam showroom at Brookfield, has attracted more
contraversry with 6 letters of objection been recivied so far and council
officer recommending to the development control committee for the
application to be refused for a varierty of reasons including 'loss of
employment land'.

Whilst I personally have no preference on whether the application is
approved or otherwise, and I can understand some of the reasons for wanting
to preserve 'employment land', it will be interesting to see whether the
development control committee will take this consideration on board in the
current 'financial climate' or if they will decide that something offering
jobs now for a vacant site should override some of the other considerations.
