organised by Tom Levitt MP and Bakewell based charity Village Aid which saw
schools and charities from across the High Peak come together to celebrate
Africa and its culture.
Each of the organisations taking part had a stall to display their work and
ideas and although they arrived late there was also an African drumming
workshop.
The main bulk of the event was a number of presentations and short drama
productions from the groups and schools taking part with special mention
needed for the performances by Glossopdale Community College and Buxton
Community School whose students had put a lot of effort and thought into the
presentations they gave.
Special mention as well to the group from New Mills School who highlighted
the work of the New Mills Fairtrade Group, with the New Mills Co-op
providing fair-trade refreshments for the event.
The African drumming workshop was very good once the arrived and youtube
clips will shortly be available of Tom Levitt MP and County Councillor Dave
Wilcox dancing to the sound of the drums !
All in all a very interesting event will a number of local groups and
charities been flagged up, some of which I will highlight in further detail
over the next few weeks.
