Free Parking Comes to an End

The 'temporary' two-hour free parking scheme for shoppers in Glossop will
come to an end on Monday 1st September.

The concession that was introduced to encourage locals to shop in Glossop
and support local businesses during the various periods of road and
pavements works in the centre has cost the council more than £41,000 in
local income.

As perhaps to be expected the press release from the council makes no
mention as to what potential effect there may be to local businesses
following the re-introduction of the charges and it will be interesting to
see if the campaigns for free parking within the centre of Glossop that
included a face book group prior to its introduction will now be restarted.
