Digital Telly

Anthony and Andy Burnham

Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh and Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport was in Glossop yesterday to meet the people behind Digital Outreach Ltd, a company that will be working with local voluntary groups to help people get ready for the digital switch over.

Digital Outreach has been set up by three leading national charities (Age Concern England, Community Service Volunteers and Help the Aged) and Glossop based company Collective Enterprises Ltd, and will work essentially on the gap between people who won’t be covered by the official government run scheme at the time of the switchover.

Now although for us in ‘Granada’ land, the switchover won’t be taking place until the end of the 2009, and the work of Digital Outreach won’t start around here until towards the end of this year, representatives from a number of local groups in Glossop were present yesterday to see what they need to be aware of to help there members prepare for the switchover.

I’ll post more details on this in the weeks to come, but for now if you require any information on the digital switchover you can visit the website at www.digitaluk.co.uk, or call the help line on 08456 50 50 50.
