Picked up from the Withington Co-operative Party blog is news that Co-operative Group will be polling its 4 million members on the development of an ethical food policy.
The policy and the poll that will put it together will be the largest poll of ‘food’ ethics ever undertaken in the UK and will collect members (and others) priorities on a wide range of issues including climate change, packaging reduction, healthy eating and diet, food labelling, Fairtrade, animal welfare, sustainable sourcing and community support.
The selected priorities will then guide the policies of the cooperative over the next few years and assist it in enhancing it position as a responsible retailer not just interested in gimmicks such as logo’s on certain types of food.
