On Thursday the Glossopdale Area Forum took place, with the main topic of discussion been health, and in particular the plans of the Tameside and Glossop PCT to build a Primary Care Centre in Glossop.
The centre which is intended to replace the existing clinic at George Street in Glossop, will provide a whole range of services, most of which are intended to enhance the facilities available at local Doctor’s surgeries. The services will also try to reduce the need for trips to hospital for minor treatment / test’s.
One issue of concern was raised with regards to ‘Physio’ treatment and the possible effect on Shire Hill, however Dr Rothery from the Primary Care Trust, advised that the bulk of services / treatments would still remain at Shire Hill.
There was also a presentation from the Social Services Department of the County Council, along with the PCT on how they are improving they way they work together to offer better services towards older people in the Glossopdale area. Finally there was also a brief and very quickly put together presentation on the facilities that will be present in Whitfield House, once the rebuilding works have finished.
