As a non-driver, I depend on local bus and train services and this week has not been one of the best.
On Monday following engineering work over the weekend, there were no trains running from Glossop, and from attending the station there appeared to be no plan or clue from Northern Rail as to what service was going to be provided or when or what arrangements had been put in place for people to be able to travel.
So quite a few headed off the 7.30am bus to Hyde, including one lady how had been at the station since 6am, and who had been told by station staff of rail replacement buses arriving at 6.15, then arriving later, then the station staff disappeared with no sign of a replacement service.
Moving on to Wednesday and after getting back to Glossop earlier than normal from work, I thought along with about a dozen other local residents that I would catch the 5.42 341 journey from Glossop back home. However 5.42 came and went with no sign of the bus, eventually at just before 6.05 the next 'service' turned up. Now although 25 minutes or thereabouts may not sound long to wait, it was quite cold on Wednesday, and from the comments of the local residents waiting this is getting to be quite a regular occurrence.
At current I am still waiting for an answer as to where the 5.42 was, but the problems can only be investigated if we know what they are and when they occur because the last complaints about this service was some time ago. As such I would urge any local residents that have complaints about the buses, to use a Buswatch form and report the problems. Forms are available on this website, or from the GRA Office.
