Tuesday saw a meeting of the development plan select at the council offices in Chinley.
The main item on the agenda was a presentation from members of the High Peak branch of Friends of the Earth on why the council should have a 'prescriptive energy policy' for new builds and any major redevelopment's / conversions.
The idea behind the policy is to help combat global warming by the council requiring a certain % of any new or substantial redevelopment's to have equipment for producing there own power, i.e. windmill's, solar panels etc.
The idea seemed to find support from the committee with officer going away to look at how such a policy can be working in to the new development framework, but working on some additional guidance for officers / members of the development control committee to include within any applications that come up between now and then.
