Youth in action event

Whilst not knowing quite what to expect with this event, it wasn’t to bad, and was essentially a market place, where all the different groups and schemes that run in Glossopdale for young people, could advertise themselves to the young people in Glossopdale.

As part of the event the ‘councillors’ stall, took over the lecture theatre, which was then used for a range of activities, some of which have been used in school’s previously during Councillor’s visit’s.

The activities were aimed at expanding on what a council is, what councillor’s do, and one or two activities aimed at getting there views for the forthcoming play strategy, which will be looking at some of the issue’s around equipment used at play parks etc.

One of the main aims for the event was to publicize the launch of a guide to activities, for young people in Glossopdale. Copies of which are available from the Volunteer center on Glossop High Street, or online here http://www.glossop.com/handson.htm, it is also intended that before long there will be a young person’s website to detail all of these activities.

The only downside for the event, was that it was a nice day !, and as such whilst there was a quite few people there, the event was not packed. This I think was part due to the nice weather, but also in part due to the fact it was held in a school, which may well be the last place you would want to go, after been there all week.
