This week started with a meeting of the Gamesley on the Go Board, which I chaired due to the absence of our usual chair. The work of the board is now ending with the end of the SRB project, and the forthcoming transfer of the healthy living center work to the Community Center’s board.
Items of note, were around the reallocation of existing funds which we hope will secure additional support for Computer training within the Early Excellence Center, one last helping for the mini-bus group, with any balances left to help with the work of the community center.
Tuesday saw a meeting of the Council’s audit and regulatory committee. Now this a committee that most would say would be rather dull, but it has a very important role to play in reviewing the work of the council, and in particular the work on risk assessment, and contingency planning, essentially making sure that the council is prepared for anything.
On Wednesday, there was a presentation on the forthcoming Twin Bin Scheme, or Binnovation as the buzzwords go which should be starting in May. More details on this will be available on the issue’s page shortly.
Also on Wednesday was a meeting of the standards committee, which I substituted at for Glossop Councillor Jacqui Wilkinson. The standards committee is one that I haven’t attended before and it looks at issue’s around councillor’s standard’s and training. It’s an interesting committee because in additional to the usual councillor membership, it also has parish councillors and two members of the public on it. The meeting considered a number of reports from the internal audit section, along with a report on reviewing the boundaries of a parish council in the middle of the borough.
Thursday contained a meeting of the Labour Group, which mainly concentrated on issues around the forthcoming full council meeting.
Friday been the last Friday in the month saw this month’s general meeting of the High Peak Labour Party. Health issue’s again topped the agenda with the meeting considering the current consultation on children’s health services within Greater Manchester. The view after discussion was that we would support the preferred option, which will see a full range of services at Tameside and Stockport Hospitals, but may see some reductions at Macclesfield, which serves residents around the Buxton area.
Saturday, should have seen the semi final of the Derbyshire Cup, with Gamesley playing against Parkhouse FC, however due to recent weather the match was postponed, and will be rescheduled to next week.
