Last Week - A brief review

Monday had a meeting of the Environment Select Committee, which was preceded by a slightly odd meeting of the Environment Portfolio Advisory Team, odd because it was without the Portfolio holder who was on holiday !

The meeting covered a number of items around refuse collection procurement, licensing, building control and environmental enforcement. However the most important item, was one not on the agenda, but just tacked on by way of a verbal update round the forthcoming twin bin scheme.

The update was that due to problems with the contract for the building of the recycling site, the start date for the scheme has been pushed back, and in a bid to try and reach the recycling targets, they are now looking at starting an ‘alternative’ pilot scheme which they hope will run in the Glossop area.

It is hoped that the scheme will start in May, but at the meeting, there was no confirmed details, no details on costs, all of which for a scheme that if it goes wrong will not only be very costly but also have a damaging impact on the service offered by the Council. More details on the ‘pilot’ will be made available as soon as I get them. For more information on the now delayed ‘twin bin’ scheme, there is a presentation at the Glossop Town Partnership Meeting which is on Monday 23rd January at 5.30pm in Glossop’s Bradbury House.

Tuesday was a meeting of the council’s executive, followed by a meeting of the Labour Group Executive.

Wednesday was a very short meeting of the Development Select, for a consultation on the amendments to the Local Development Scheme, a report which had been approved the night before by the Executive.

After that a short spell at the ‘Friends of Manor Park’ meeting, which I was persuaded to attend by Hadfield North Councillor Vicky Mann, who is working to set up a similar group for Chapel Lane Park in Hadfield.

Wednesday finished with a Glossopdale Labour Party Branch Meeting in Glossop Labour Club. A number of items discussed included the current consultations on PCT’s and Children’s Health Services.

Thursday saw this months meeting of the Constituency Executive, over fairly quickly, with a few members missing due to other commitments.

Almost the end of the week with Friday and a Residents Association meeting, not two painful ! There was however an issue with regards to the 239 (Glossop, Gamesley to Ashton Stagecoach) bus services which calls at Tameside Hospital.

The issue been confusion over a new service (S39) been started by a rival company (Speedwell) running a few minutes before the current service on almost the same route, (it doesn’t call at the Hospital and goes a different route between Mottram and Stalybridge) meaning that people are been told that the hospital bus is been withdrawn, which is not the case (at least not at current.) this is just an extra service.

Lastly on Saturday, I was over on Hadfield supporting Hadfield North Councillor Vicky Mann, who had a clean up session at Chapel Lane Park – photo / more details here.
