Last week - a brief review

Saturday – Today, saw a new initiative titled ‘Lunch with your councillors’ take place, which involved a number of Labour Councillors and party members from across Glossopdale. The idea, which was suggested by local party member Ellie Wilcox, was essentially a Councillor’s surgery with a buffet lunch. The event was quite well attending with a number of local residents from across Glossopdale attending to raise issue’s with us. The event was quite a success and it is planned to held again, with the next one in September.

Wednesday – A half day off work to attend the 2nd meeting of the Gamesley Neighbourhood Police Team, which is basically a meeting of the Police, along with representative of the various agencies working on the estate. The group, which was first established in April with the main aims of reducing crime and reducing the fear of crime, was meeting to update everyone with current progress. The progress report that the police gave was very encouraging, with work on a whole range of area’s, including Cottage Lane and nuisance motor bikes been listed.

This month's Glossopdale branch meeting took place, with a very interesting speaker from the Glossop Piece and Justice group talking about the various issue's around the make poverty history campaign. He also spoke on some of the more practical things we can do to support the cause by working with or buying Traidcraft products and supporting some of the initiatives detailed in the "new foundation magazine"

Tuesday - Saw a meeting of the council's executive, which amongst other items of business also considered the referral from last week’s corporate select committee on Section 106 monies (detailed below). In the end the executives deferred the recommendations for further reports from the officers, and are now unlikely to make a decision before September.

Monday - This evening started with a training session on planning, followed up with a additional meeting of the social inclusion select committee looking at the council's joint housing strategy. The strategy is a joint piece of work from the Borough and Derbyshire Dales District Council who are our partners in a growing number of areas.
