Home energy boost for Gamesley

Last Thursday evening a meeting of the council’s executive approved a scheme which will see the following home energy efficiency improvements planned for homes owned by the council on the ‘electric side’ of Gamesley :


• Replacement of windows

• External cladding

• Roof line work including replacement of fascias and barge boards.

The works which are in partnership with High Peak Community Housing are to the value of approximately £3.5 million and will apply to over 500 homes on the ‘electric side’ (Wimpey No-Fines Homes) and are due to start in the next few months and will be completed before the end of next year.

Estimates suggest that the improvements once completed could reduce households’ heating bills by around £200 a year with the funding for the work coming from a combination of the council’s housing revenue account capital programme and the Government’s Community Energy Savings Programme (CESP).

The two private sector contractors completing the work will also seek to involve private home owners in the scheme and further details will be available as part of the consultation programme.


The first stage of the consultation programme for the scheme is that all residents who live in the area where the works will take place will receive a letter detailing information on the scheme including the contractor and preliminary work underway (surveyors etc) and an invite to an open day on Friday 15th / Saturday 16th July to find out more about the project.
