Reg Mann

Sad news from the other side of Glossop on Sunday (7th June). With the news
that former Derbyshire County Councillor for Glossop Reg Mann had passed
away following a serious stroke on Friday (5th June).

Although Reg had not been on the County Council for some time, he was still
involved with a wide range of activities, not least the Mamelodi Trust and
his enthusiasm for those causes will be deeply missed.

I have known Reg Mann since my early childhood in Glossop, having been school friends with his sons Ian and Graham. Reg was the first person who really inspired me to take an interest in politics, particularly during the dark days of Thatcherism when he and his colleagues in Derbyshire County Council showed that another way was possible, as well as raising Glossop's profile and promoting its interests down there in Matlock. A hugely intelligent yet down to earth and likeale guy who put so much effort into fighting for Glossop and for social justice over the years. Reg's untimely passing is a great shock and sadness, a loss to Glossop and means that there is one less decent person in the world on the side of social justice. RIP.
