Allotments meeting

Tuesday evening saw the latest meeting of the various groups across
Glossopdale working to get more allotments.

The meeting started off with a further review of the various sites across
Glossopdale that had been identified at the previous meeting, which have
been considered further to the point where after reviewing them it was
agreed that the council would organize some initial public consultation on
the sites.

The initial sites identified are as follows:

Hadfield - Land at Bankswood Park, Land off Padfield Main Road and Paradise
Street

Gamesley - Various sites around Melandra Castle Road (between the old police
houses and the Centurion / Roman Garden) and Cottage Lane Recreation Ground
in Gamesley

Site have been harder to identify in Glossop, but sites still been looked at
in Glossop include Adderley Place, Volcrape, Hope St and Shepley St, along
with land at Bankswood Park and on Corn Mill been potentially identified for
Community Orchard space.

Feedback was received from the group involved to try and get firmer figures
on the number of allotments wanted with initials figures including a review
that's underway on the council's waiting list looking like around 120
additional allotment plots would be needed to satisfy people identified so
far.

The meeting also considered updates on some links the council have
established with other allotment groups, groundwork's and a body called the
allotment regeneration initiative, a representative of whom will be coming
to see and advise the groups on the way forward with some of the identified
sites.

Next steps will start to include looking at how we get the funding to make
the schemes a reality along with starting to look at how allotment sites can
be developed and managed.
