Guest Lecture in a fashion !

A visit to the University of Derby's Devonshire Dome Campus in Buxton last
Thursday to deliver along with Ellie Wilcox two sessions on how political
party candidates are selected for elections to students in the first year of
the Uniformed Services BTEC.

Whilst I think the 'lecture' part went ok, the discussion following each of
the sessions was quite useful and interesting with a wide range of issues
been flagged up by the students present from issues over the automatic
assumption that groups of young people are up to anti social behaviour to
concerns over speeding traffic on the Glossop Hayfield Road and the
cleanliness of fast food establishments in Glossop been raised.

Both sessions were very useful and I hope that events similar to this along
with initiatives like local democracy week can be developed a lot further,
particularly now that local authorities have this set in law duty to develop
local democracy.

Many thanks to Anne Brown from the University for inviting us along.
