International noise awareness day

This Wednesday (16th April) is International noise awareness day, an event organised by the league for the hard of hearing (www.lhh.org/noise) and supported by the Health and Safety Executive (www.hse.gov.uk/noise/) to raise awareness of issues around noise.

The H.S.E. Advise that around 170,000 people across the UK suffer from deafness, tinnitus or other ear conditions as a result of exposure to excessive noise at work, many of which could have been prevented by a range of practical and cost effective measurers to reduce / remove the risk of injury.

However noise issues at work aren't the only theme considered with the ILH website listing a number of initiatives (mainly American) based for thing you can do local to tackle noise problems.

In addition during May there is a a themed week of events (19-23 May 2008) organised by Environmental Protection UK (www.environmental-protection.org.uk) around the theme of Promoting Quieter, Healthier Neighbourhoods and steps and initiatives you can take to tackle noise issues.
