New Mills Courthouse

Following a long and contested planning process including issues around a village green application, the proposed new Courthouse at New Mills has been abandoned.

This means from details provided by Tom Levitt MP, that in all likelihood it will not be until 2011 until plans for a new court house site within the High Peak are considered and that for the foreseeable future since the closure of the Glossop Court some time ago, the only High Peak based court will be at Buxton in a building that Tom advises is not accessible for frail and disabled people, has no high security facility and does not provide court users or staff with the dignity they deserve in a modern justice system.
