Full Council

Thursday evening saw a meeting of the full council to consider amongst other
things the budget and council tax for the following year.

As previously flagged up the previously discussed council tax increase of 3%
was approved with support for all of the council, the budget however was not
universally supported with the Labour Group voting against the budget due to
concerns over some areas of savings and increased charges for bulky waste
collections and other charges.

Concerns were also expressed with regards to the control of the budget
debate and other debates on the evening with some members expressing the
view that the Mayor was either been wrongly advised on how the debate should
run or wasn't acting as neutrally as the Mayor should do.

To this end and to clear up the issue for future occasions I've asked the
chair of the audit and regulatory committee along with the borough solicitor
if it is possible to review the current rules for debate at the next meeting
of the audit and regulatory committee.
