Freedom of the Borough

Monday evening saw a ceremony to mark the awarding of honorary freedom of the borough to Charlesworth resident Ray Davies MBE.

The ceremony took place at the Glossop Cricket and Bowling Club's Clubhouse on North Road in Glossop, and is only the 5th time since the High Peak Council was created in the mid 1970's that the honour has been awarded.

The ceremony included speeches from the Mayor Cllr Jean Wharmby, Cllr Chris Webster and Council Leader John Fauklner along with personal recollection of Mr Davies work from family friend and former Glossop Mountain Rescue Team Member Mr Geoffrey Tickle.

The Ceremony concluded with a presentation from the Glossop Mountain Rescue team highlighting the work that they did, all of which is done on a voluntary basis with call outs potentially been at any time of the day or night.

After over 50 years of dedicated service to the Mountain Rescue Service in England and Wales, it was a privilege to attend the Ceremony marking Mr Davies and in a sense the Glossop Mountain Rescue services awarding of freedom of the borough.
