Statistics gathered by BBC Radio Derby found that since 2002/03 about 20 officers quit the Derbyshire Police force each financial year but this rose to 42 in 2006/07.
A Derbyshire police spokesperson said the figures were not cause for concern as the force employs more than 2,000 officers, and the reason for resigning from the force can include officers transferring to another force.
Duncan Davis, chairman of Derbyshire Police Federation said the figures should be looked at but should not cause alarm as officers were leaving for a wide variety of reasons.
