A number of local residents have contacted me with regards to comments by some of the bus drivers that the low floor buses currently in use on most of the bus services round the estate are been withdrawn.
After checking with the bus company Speedwell, the concerns are correct and due to costs issues low floor buses will only be guaranteed on the 394 service, with the other services calling on Gamesley using non low floor buses.
The mean reason from Speedwell for why this is happening is due to problems with the concessionary fares scheme, with the company advising that it is not receiving the costs back it is entitled to.
I’m currently awaiting a reply from the County Transport Unit and once I receive a response I will investigate further, and see what else can be done, to restore this effective loss of service to those unable to access normal buses.
