Influencing Labour Councillor’s – the Benn way

Like fellow Labour Councillor Bob Piper, I have received today an email from the Hilary Benn campaign for the deputy leadership, and like Bob I was surprised with the strange opening for the email which started off with the following :

Dear Friend

It is now 3 weeks since the last set of local government elections. Many of you will have been re-elected; many of you will have lost colleagues. You have represented one of the many council seats we lost.

The email then continues on with how the loses cannot be wrote off and how important local Labour councillor’s are, before continuing on with the blurb on why Hilary Benn is the best choice for deputy.

Now whilst High Peak did have some bad result’s in the local elections, mine (nor my Dad’s who has received the same email) wasn’t one of them and rather then perhaps convincing me to change my support to Hilary Benn, it further convinces me that Jon Cruddas as the only candidate outside of the ‘cabinet bubble’ was the right choice to support several months ago and is still the right choice now.

Thanks for spotting the deliberate (ahem!) mistake.

Should have read 'you may have been'

Hope the overall message wasn't lost - that Hilary doesn’t believe that any councilor is expendable.
