Gamesley Dispersal Order

Thank you for those of you who contacted me about the dispersal order, following last weeks post about it.

Similar to the comments from the Police, a lot of local residents feel it is working quite well, but a number were concerned that the order doesn’t seem to be completely working with regards to the shops and one or two other places on the estate.

The reason that people don’t feel the order is working very well near the shops is due to there still been times when there are one or more groups of a number of young people, who in most cases are doing nothing, but are still causing concern to local residents, because they are there in a group.

However in terms of how the order works the Police have clarified that whilst they can disperse people who are in groups of two or more. They can only do it if the ‘group’ is causing problems such as causing harassment, alarm or distress or they are likely to cause problems. It doesn't give them a power to disperse anyone just because they are in groups.

That said though, the Police say that the order has given them a useful power to help tackle anti social behaviour on the estate, and if you feel there is an area they need to tackle please let them know either by Phone on 0845 123 3333 or the HPCH office on the shops, or the mobile police office which is on the shops every Tuesday morning.
