Last week – a brief review

Monday of this week saw a meeting of the Gamesley on the Go Board, again only a few of the members turned up, with quite a few of the community members missing. I think this is partly due to the fact that essentially the work of the board is just about finished with mainly bits of tidying up to do, before it ceases to exist and the remaining work for the Healthy Living Centre passes on to the ‘almost’ formed Community Centre Management Partnership.

One note of concern was that some of the funding we were expecting for the centre for Health Promotion work from the Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust has been restricted due to a change in Government rules on where the money can be spent. This is something very concerning as it could effect future project funded by the PCT across Glossopdale, so I asked Tom Levitt MP, to find out why and do what he can to get the decision changed – so more to come on this later.

Tuesday saw a meeting of the Council’s executive committee, which was this month attended by a number of local residents from the Glossopdale Area, many of whom I recognised as been campaigners against the Mottram Tintwistle Bypass. Apparently there had been a presentation to the executive by the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, who are a group opposed to the by-pass prior to the meeting.

Although this didn’t seem to effect the decision reached by the executive as they still voted to support the scheme I do hope that there was an opportunity given for those in favour of the by-pass to also brief the executive.

Other items included on the executive agenda were, Gershon savings, council representative on the Tameside and Glossop NHS trust, refuse collection, community grants and the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change.

Friday, saw this quarters meeting of the Gamesley Neighbourhood Policing Team, which I was unable to attend, but the other Cllr Mckeown was, more details to follow soon.

Friday also saw this month meeting of the High Peak Labour Party, which was in Whaley Bridge, and included an interesting discussion on a motion from the Glossopdale Branch, with regards to improving the connections with Trade Unions.
