Tuesday saw me substituting at a meeting of the Regeneration Select Committee, which for that meeting was meeting in the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton.
The meeting started off with a number of complaints from the normal members due to problems with the meeting date in the run up to the meeting. These were apparently due to the availability or otherwise of the executive member. However once this was sorted we got down to business on the two items for discussion, one a key local topic, the A628 bypass, the other looking at the future (in a sense) of the Pavilion Gardens.
The A628 bypass item, was looking at a number of issues around the draft orders that have been issued and also on confirming the view of the borough council in support or otherwise of the by-pass, particularly in the light of the Peak Parks current decision to be opposed to the by-pass in preference to there earlier stand of supporting it as part of the SPITS (South Pennine Integrated Transport Strategy)work.
Well after a long discussion on a whole range of issues around the bypass, we agreed to support the bypass, but to request more detailed study on the traffic figures, and on measures to restrain the existing alternative routes such as the main A57 to Glossop, the Charlesworth - Broadbottom route and the Snake Pass.
This 'decision' of the select committee now goes as a recommendation to the executive, but the final decision on the bypass, will be taken at a public enquiry which is due to start in the September of this year.
The second item was looking in a sense at the progress of the Pavilion Garden's business plan, and how things can be improved with regards to the further developing the Pavilion's Gardens. Again after discussion it does appear that progress has been made, but there were still issues that no progress is been made on, things like 'theatre' meals, links with opera house, marketing etc, where some of the issues raised are the same as ones in the past.
Wednesday was a meeting of a working group, looking at issues around member development and training and how that can be best used to both help members and improve both the council and community.
Saturday finished off with this month's councillor's surgery, which was a bit quite as opposed to last months !!
